Simply looking at the title, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Gnome Wood would be a parade of garden statue clichés and stereotypical animation. But Microgaming have done an amazing job at honoring the legendary tales of the gnome in their fun and exciting new game, Gnome Wood.
The background of the game features a lot of greenery, but it's not someone's lawn. On the left is the gnome's cottage, built into a hill in the style of the Hobbits. In the distant right you see ruins, a nod to the Renaissance-era origins of this mythical creature.
The symbols are similarly erudite, with beautifully designed earth, wind, fire and water symbols etched in stone; a rose quartz crystal, an ancient book, Free Spin gold coins emblazoned with the gnome's likeness, and the glowing tip of the gnome's staff as the Wild.
The grid for standard play is five reels and three rows. So is the grid for Free Spins, but it's in another part of the woods; a cut scene triggered by three or more Free Spin symbols shows the gnome exiting his house on hamster-back and leading you to a stone altar for the duration of the free spin mode.
But the gnome isn't the only one who wanders here. So do the Wilds; once a Wild appears, it "roams" from right to left on the reels with each subsequent bonus spin. Blue Wilds trigger this bonus round, while purple Wilds include 2x multipliers.
Gnome Wood has been optimized for free or for-money play on computers, tablets and mobile devices.
